You might be asking yourself why am I moving my search up to the LA/Ventura county line?
Well for you mid century modern fans I have stumbled upon a rare Eichler in one of the 3 Eichler tracts built in Southern California.
So this particular Eichler isn’t the typical Eichler MCM style it is very boring and featureless compared to its typical A frame style or extended roof lines but it does have the tell tail court yard feature which is the central feature in most Eichler homes.
I was told by an agent at open house in the tract in Granada Hills that these homes were built to accommodate returning WW2 veterans coming home from war. I asked why that was important and he said the veterans returned home with PTSD so Eichler designed these homes so people could see everything within the walls of these glass enclosed homes. The agent pointed out that these men who called them home needed to be able to have a home with clean sight lines to be able to calm their nerves from the intense experience they had inn WW2.
As you can see this this MCM home needs to be brought back to life.
Going back to the location of this particular Eichler it is located in the quiet bedroom community of Thousand Oaks, One of three Tracts with the other two being located in Granada Hills & in the city of Orange.

To me this street is oasis in an otherwise sprawling city we all call home. It looks as if this house was originally built with local stone quarry, the rounded stone tell a story of the what people choose to work with when building homes in the canyons. I love look and feel of this cabin of stone, as a geology nerd and historian of older homes in Burbank this property is jewel hidden in the city.
